Lobster bites and good service. You can skip the rest of the review now. A fun place, we really enjoyed the atmosphere, our waitress Kendall and the cook. We got there early and had an excellent service experience. Not a "touristy" spot, the food is more refined than the atmosphere.. they rock the nautical theme. They only serve beer and wine, Lisa had a taste for a margarita but ended up happy with a white sangria... We started with the Lobster bites, this is a bunch of lobster in a bath of butter served with little toasts that look like they lost their bruschetta topping. Not to worry about those lonely little toasts though.. they have a better topping in store for them. Kendall noticed us spooning the lobster onto the bread and suggested that she likes dipping the toast first. Well.. duh.. our touristiness was showing.. we quickly adjusted our eating technique and reveled in the dish. We both had excellent soup.. Lisa.. the Lobster Bisque.. YUM! and me, the delicious and chunky Clam Chowder Lisa ordered the Fish (Mahi Mahi) tacos, they looked good but she said that they were a little dry.. they served her black beans on top of yellow rice.. I tasted hers and they were delicious! My meal came with a mixed green salad, it was very good.. it was generously sprinkled with blue cheese crumbles and chunks of bacon (yeah, bacon) and drizzled with a balsamic vinagrette.. very good. I ordered the Grouper plate which came with corn and yellow rice. The corn was tasty, but next time I will substitute the black beans for the corn.... My grouper wasn't dry, it was quite good.. maybe could have used a touch more seasoning and the rice was cooked perfectly, soft and loose, great texture and flavor. Overall an excellent experience and great value. We would go back for sure. After dinner we walked over to the cupcake shop, took those purchases to the coffee shop, overindulged some more.. and then enjoyed walking around the town of Safety Harbor. The total experience was a win.

I revisited Bar Fly and have been hooked. Mainly because of the delicious oysters and also the wonderful service. I have been sitting outside with my dog so it brings me great happiness to take my little doggy out while I snack on some raw oysters. They certainly have expanded in size from my first visit. And don't forget all their special deals, every day!!! I just love this place! Amazing place to grub and relax with a drink. Try it please!! Bring happiness to your tummy.

I really enjoyed this place. The portions are great, the food was fresh and there's a good Florida vibe in here: Fishing, beer, sandals, etc. These guys had a good selection on Sweetwater beer and their menu is diverse. I had a Mahi-Mahi bowl that was good-good. I would have never thought of mixing fish with black beans in a bowl but the outcome was tasty. I went for lunch while I waited for an appointment and had wifi to catch up with my work. They have live bands and performers at night (on the weekend for sure) and it seemed like a fun place to hang out.

Imagine if Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley had a baby.....OK, maybe that might be pushing it, but envision a terrific neighborhood seafood restaurant and bar that is decorated like a Key West fish house with a staff that are straight off the island of Jamaica with the laid-back Irie attitude. That quirky description explains what you'll find at the Bar Fly Saltwater Grill located along Main Street in Safety Harbor, just a block off of Philippe Parkway. This business is split into two side-by-side areas with the Bar Fly bar in one room, and the adjoining Saltwater Grill sitting next door. There is a connecting archway so that you can pass from one room to the next, and you can order drinks and food anyplace that you can find a table. It's all good, mon! I was there on a recent Friday night at about 8pm. The regulars had bellied up to the bar for a cold craft beer or two, and the rest of us were looking for something to eat from the raw bar or off the regular menu. The restaurant has about a dozen tables, and there are also a few other places inside the bar. There are also a few tables sitting outside on the sidewalk. Expect a wait if you get there during peak times, but otherwise grab a seat and relax. There's a chalkboard on the wall with their various daily fresh fish specials, and the menu lists the raw oysters, clams, peel-n-eat shrimp, and conch ceviche appetizers to start your meal. They have a delicious smoked fish dip, crab cakes, and island salsa and chips if you're looking for something different. The menu also has soups and salads if you prefer something more traditional. The second page of the menu has fish tacos, lobster rolls, and fish sandwiches (grouper and mahi mahi were fresh when I was there). They also have buckets of snow crab clusters, peel-n-eat Old Bay-seasoned shrimp, steamed clams, and crab cakes as well. If you check the chalkboard you'll see a couple of seafood dinner options, and I spotted a blackened grouper filet topped with pineapple salsa, and served with coleslaw and yellow rice. The back page of the menu lists a wide variety of local craft beers including Sweetwater 420, Cigar City, and a tasty Key West Sunset Ale from Florida Beer Company. A nice mix of 20 or so beers to compliment your meal. Bar Fly Saltwater Grill has a number of nightly specials throughout the week on both food and drink, and this is a very relaxing place to come and unwind in downtown Safety Harbor. You can park your car out on the street, or nearby at the Safety Harbor Library, and then enjoy a nice stroll around the downtown area after your meal. Listen to the rasta reggae music, and soak up a little island flavor with your meal and a cold beer from Bar Fly Saltwater Grill..... 'Cuz every little ting gonna be alright!

If you love fishing and the whole "keys" vibe, you will love his place. The food is outstanding, the music is always dope, and the craft beers are cold. Everyone I've met in this place was cool, even the really tipsy ones! Met the owner Jeff today, he said he wanted to make a place where people who fly fish would hang out when they weren't fishing. Jeff, you nailed it my friend. Plus, they are partners with skinny water culture. A badass, newish (to me...) company that makes apparel and sponsors local fish tournies and events. Look em up if you like fishing, and go spend some money at a local place that gets it.

We've been here twice and every single things we've had has been absolutely delicious. Our first visit we drank Florida Cracker on tap. Second visit we Stella Cidre, red sangria, and Yella Pils. All delicious. This visit we started off with raw oysters (I did not try these but we're told they were very fresh and delicious.) We also started with some steamed Cedar Key clams that were really really good! As a meal I had the sweet habanero nachos. These nachos are hands down the best nachos I've ever had. They are consistently amazing. My husband has tried 2 types of tacos and loved both. My father in law had he grouper dinner and thought everything was fresh and prepared to perfection. We will most definitely be back as frequently as possible!

The absolute best grouper sandwich I've ever had...hands down. You could taste the freshness and it was a big, plump cut. Part of me doesn't want anyone to find out about this place because I like it the way it is now...small and not crowded. The chef is able to keep things fresh and simple, allowing for truly great food (especially fish).

This is a super cool local find. The bar has a fun atmosphere, with all kinds of chotskies on the wall and near the bar that make it authentic and exciting. There is live music a few times a week, which is pretty good. They have quite a bit of craft beer offerings from local brewers. We were lucky enough to find a beer from a craft brewer up in Jacksonville on their menu. The fish tacos were delicious. The fish was flakey and tasted fresh. I also enjoyed their kettle chip appetizer. Definitely will be back here, if only for a beer and some appetizers!

  • Ryan T.

Great local spot with friendly staff, good beer specials and delicious seafood. We had a dozen raw oysters, tacos and a grouper bowl. The only thing I would complain about is there are only two tacos served with taco order. I thought there would be more since it was $12. Everything was delicious and service was quick. We will be back for sure.

My husband and I went to the Bar Fly today for a late lunch and enjoyed some amazing food and service! We started with the fish spread served with crackers, celery and jalapeños on the side. This was hands down once of the most delicious appetizers we have ever had. Made fresh daily, and you can tell! We then had the cilantro lime grouper tacos. There was so much fresh grouper in each taco and the sauce was very good to top them off. Also, apparently the food was taking a little longer than normal which we hadn't noticed at all until our great waiter apologized for our wait. Not thinking anything of it, we were then delivered our tacos from the owner who also apologized for our wait and said she would be giving us some key lime pie for free. Also amazing! We were blown away. Such incredible service with an even better meal. Can't wait to go back :)

Once you open the door, the overwhelming smell of years of fish juice fill your nostrils. We couldn't force ourselves to stay. Can't tell you much about he food.

Stumbled upon this place and so glad I did! The smoked fish dip and mixed seafood island nachos are amazing! Definitely a must try! We only had time for appetizers but we are already making plans to come back for dinner soon.

I had the shrimp tacos and they were superb. Hard to find shrimp that fresh in Canada. I would have preferred my tacos to be a bit more spicy from the get go, because they were advertised as such, but they have plenty of hot sauce to make up for it. The service was friendly but quite slow. Not the fault of the one cook or two servers, definitely a management issue for such a busy place. I only ordered one thing and a bunch of cheap beer, but everyone else also seemed happy with their food. I would definitely go back.

Came here for a private event. I didn't eat but the service was top notch!! Very cool looking bar that caters to the Florida Anglers. Funky decor, cool beer list plus you can even buy fly fishing ties. Come here to have a Sweetwater beer and talk about the fish you almost caught!

Went over on Taco Tuesday with a group of friends who have begun making this their Tuesday night hangout. Definitely more of a locals place (fine with me since I qualify). Our server was friendly, extremely knowledgeable about brews and availability as well as the menu, and was fairly attentive, considering how busy the place got. He was a little slow at times, but it was easily corrected by getting his attention. The Mahi tacos were very good. I'm not fish taco aficianado, not yet anyway, but these were interesting and I was hungry. They went down well. The presence of pineapple was a bit interesting, but all in all it didn't get in the way of my enjoyment of the meal. Also had a half dozen of the steamed oysters. They could have been more well done, but I didn't ask for it and, quite frankly, was hungry - they went down even faster than the tacos. They were fresh, served quickly, and with the appropriate sides (horseradish and shrimp sauce). I enjoyed the food but think the service could have been a bit better. Since this was my first time here I really would prefer to visit a few more times before I update to any higher star rating. I felt they deserved a 3.5, but since that's unavailable, and I wasn't quite comfy with a 4 star at this time, I gave a 3. But that's not to their detriment! I just need to visit again to get a good baseline. :)

This place is not going to get an award for decor. It is kind of rough. But I liked the food and really liked the server who helped me chose a beer. She was very friendly and attentive. Food was good, service, fantastic. We will return to this local hang-out and try some other items on the menu.

Food was fabulous as was the view. Drinks at the bar and service was excellent even with large crowds. Wish I had more time to sit and sip.

Fish tacos are AMAZING! Great service, great beer & a great atmosphere. We live in Safety Harbor & this is our go to spot!

One of my favorites! The peel n eat shrimp are big, cooked just right, a generous half pound and served lightly seasoned. The beer is cold and they have a good variety of craft beers. Service is good depending on who get you as a server. Bob Marley playing in the background made it a great experience. Don't forget to try the chowder!

Main Street in Safety Harbor is such a cool area. Lots of dining options and Bar Fly is the place to go for seafood here. Great, laid-back service that is still quick. Has a Key West vibe. Seafood was fresh and delicious.

Erika and Chef D are awesome! Very personable! It's hard to choose! Not a bad thing on the menu! My new fav! Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Lobster roll was on point. Fish tacos were on point. And chicken southwest tacos were on point. The sides were good. The drinks were good. The service was perfect and the atmosphere is phenomenal. Laid back key west style. I will defiantly be back!

Fantastic! We were headed to Clearwater and pulled off the main road after deciding that we wanted something local rather than a chain. Yelp helped us find this place and we were very happy. Both food and service were awesome. I had the fish tacos and husband had the mahi sandwich - both were fresh and delicious with large portions. The server was very friendly and offered some wonderful suggestions. The white sangria was some of the best I have had. We will be back! Give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic seafood nachos! Best ever! Great prices! The waiter was genuinely helpful and extremely friendly. Lots of beer choices and really great food. There is just a nice vibe that makes you comfortable there,

Not the best place for lunch. The food was saggy, cold and tasteless. Service was slow but she was nice. Our waitress was nice and explain our plates fairly good. Price was on the lower end but the food wasn't too good. We were a large group so maybe that didn't help much. Rarely my fellow yelpers are wrong but this time I was disappointed. Oh, well... You can't win them all...

We tried to eat there today but no one came to our table. After waiting for someone to get our order for a long time, we just decided to leave and go next door. No staff members addressed us the entire time we were there. They seem to be extremely under-staffed.

Such a fun little place in Safety Harbor. I think it was the owner who waited on me and he was great. He was wearing a 7th Sun brewery shirt so I knew he was cool! The craft beer selection was very good and my grouper sandwich was great. Make sure to stop in here for a relaxing and tasty meal if you're in the area.

WOW. I just had lunch at Barfly and it was amazing. I was helped by the bartender Kelly. She explained all about the menu with the various specials of the week. I went with a dozen oysters only $10 on Wednesdays. They were so fresh and delicious. Then I ordered their famous lobster bites. Yummy. This is a cool little Floridian bar and restaurant. I can't wait to go back for taco Tuesday's. Remember ask for Kelly, she's the greatest

We were looking for a casual place near or house and, since we are new to Tampa, we turned to Yelp. This place was highly rated and they weren't wrong. It is two store fronts combined in to one. Very casual and laid back. D told us to take our time, no hurry. I like that. Our waiter "D" was great. gave us the remote to change the channel on the TV since we weren't in to motocross. Briefed us on the menu and the daily specials. Recommended the fish spread for an appetizer and we ordered a pitcher of sangria. Fish spread was to die for. Sangria was so so. Should have been sweeter and the pitcher was loaded with ice. Got about four drinks out of it (in glasses loaded with ice. Should have gotten six). My wife had the mahi tacos and I had the shrimp bowl. Both were excellent. Too stuffed for desert. Service was great. Food was great. Next time we'll know to order less ice in the sangria, but we'll be back!

This place has come a long way. They have added some great dishes to the menu. They have 4 or 5 different types of seafood tacos, the lobster tacos are awesome! I still feel that it is overpriced though, 12 dollars for fish tacos with no accompaniments seems a bit high.

  • Laurie R.

Very good tacos. We had chicken and mahi tacos and both were very delicious! There cole slaw was also very good. Would come back again!! Friendly atmosphere and staff.

Wonderful place with the best fresh oysters on the half shell. Have eaten there three times and always had Dozen oysters and they were always fresh and no odor at all. There were 6 of us and all the choices got rave reviews. Small place not fancy but great staff who made you feel right at home. Look forward to going back.

Came here based on great yelp reviews and not disappointed; in fact dined here two nights in a row. Best raw oysters I have ever eaten (wish i had opted for a dozen) and terrific mahi tacos. Great casual vibe, good service and great food. If we lived near here we would be regulars.

Ended up at this place because the restaurant that was recommended was closed tonight but thank you for being closed! This place is delicious! The prices are right & the food is incredibly tasty! They have tons of different beers & wines as well. My hubby ordered the sweet habanero chicken nachos & yummy! I ordered a dozen oysters on the 1/2 shell & could've eaten 2 more dozen easily. The oysters were fresh & plump so no crackers needed! The horseradish was medium in hotness so of course I had to add more to my ketchup & it was just right! We both then ventured into the soups & tried the clam chowder! Folks, let's just say we'll be back! Everything was delicious & spiced just right & the service was good!

  • Courtney Z.

Great food, amazing sangria and the best Florida beer selection in the area. The lobster bisque is the best in Tampa bay and rather cheap. The lobster roll is sweet and juicy on a toasted roll. I say give this place a try if you are anywhere in the area. My husband and I come weekly.

Was very hesitant on this place because i like outside bars but i have to say this place has s great atmosphere, cuban was toasted to perfection and pineapple salsa was delicious!! Reggae music playing makes you feel like your on vacation! Great service from bartender Alan, he adds to the great atmosphere! Loved it and will definitely be back!!

If you are in the mood for a laid back place with a key west feel, then bar fly is the place to be. Things I love: *The seafood is prepared in a way that accentuates it's sea flavors. *Try the lobster bites, tacos on taco Tuesday and the island nachos. *Nothing here is fried. In fact, you walk into this place and it doesn't even smell like a restaurant. It smells sterile. I guess that's a good thing? * It's a great atmosphere. *You can bring your dog out, and they have bowls. *The main street environment is very quaint and lively. Drawbacks: This is more of a LOCAL joint. It has a very steady regular crowd. I believe that is the one downfall of this place. The service is well...A'ight. My issue is that when you visit a restaurant, you want spectacular service. Here they kind of treat you like a, well, local. In a way that's not a bad thing, but locals are loyal and laid back when it comes to excellent service. I feel the servers are too "lax" and think you will be cool with any delays, or shortages of menu items. Yes, I am a local. The food has not disappointed me yet. Just the service. Even so, I have had worse. Much worse. Give the place a try, bring your dog, or your woman. Great place to grab a beer after fishing, boating, or on a hot afternoon. They tend to have live music weekends at night.

My mom and I went here for lunch. We're just visiting the area and I wanted to try a local spot. This place was great, the service is laid back and super friendly. We started with oysters from Louisiana which were so sweet and so fresh we ended up getting 2 dz. We also shared the mahi and shrimp nachos with housemade remoulade which was super delicious. The Chef came out and was also friendly and extremely talented. They have a great beer selection and I would definitely go back.

We were looking for local flavor and boy did we find it. This place was fantastic. The service, food and atmosphere made this one of our best dining experiences in a while. My wife had the crab cakes and I had the shrimp tacos. Both of us loved our food. We also had four beers and an appetizer for under $40. The have tables out front and that is where we dined and I expected service to be slower but that was not the case. Service was incredible. This was a great dining experience.

Excellent environment, food and staff. My husband and I immediately took this place as it reminded me of home ( Hawaii). Alan is such a sweet heart and friendly. He is warm and welcoming. We had a lobster roll sandwich and a sweet, an spicy chicken nachos that are only served on Sunday. It was amazing!!! Thanks for the Aloha

If you're hungry for fish tacos, there is no better place to go than Bar Fly in Safety Harbor. They have some interesting beers on the menu and lots of nice seafood choices. We had the cool seafood platter as an appetizer. Expensive, but worth it!

  • Alaina B.

Excellent! I assume it was the owner who was working at the bar, and he was very nice as well as funny. The service was very prompt, and everything was fresh. I am not a huge seafood lover, and it takes a lot to get me to eat anything other than fish and chips if we go to a place... and to be honest when we showed up in Safety Harbor I had a hankering for Grouper and Chips which there was none of on the menu. That being said, I opted for the crab cakes (something I have never liked before) because I just had a gut feeling, and my gut feeling was right. They were SO INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! Not just the crab cakes themselves, but the corn and rice/beans that came as side dishes. The corn tasted like fresh farm candy and the rice and beans were great without being heavy. I also split an order of their nachos with my fiance (we ordered them with chicken) and all the flavors worked perfectly together. I think we ate the whole thing in ten minutes. Our friend ordered one of the salads, and she said it was the best salad she ever had. She urged us to try it and I did take a little bite even though I know I'm not supposed to have salad anymore. Egads! That is one salad I'd gladly suffer for later to eat now. A little surprised Cigar City wasn't on draft, but they did have the cans (which I didn't notice until after I ordered the Mango beer from the Virgin Islands). I am happy I did try the mango beer, however, because I have never tasted anything like it and would have ordered it again had I not realized I could still get my Florida Cracker ale on the hot day it was perfect for. We actually stumbled on this place while walking to another restaurant, and are very glad we did. I was hoping to at least try my fiance's fish tacos and have him try my crab cakes, but both of us were so enamored with our own dishes that we gobbled them up before realizing we had none left to share. The story of how they came to be here and open this restaurant is great, so take a look at their menu so you can read it as well. Next time we make it up to Safety Harbor I am hoping we stop here again. I only have a few wishes... one would be more local stuff on draft, two would be to have a sign (unless we missed it) on if you wanted to be seated outside or inside because we were totally confused being first timers and if we weren't supposed to order at the bar the guy at least put up with our stupor as we did so and had it brought to us later. Also, there wasn't too much info on where all the food came from, which most people I suppose don't care about but it is surprising how many places even on the water end up using imported food. For some things it makes sense, but when you live in Florida and most of the ingredients are around it - from tomatoes in Immokalee to greens and fruits on Pine Island and down in Homestead, to all the stone crab (also pine island) to the grouper and hogfish in the keys. It would make more sense to use them and advertise those facts. I hope this restaurant continues to thrive and flourish over the years to come! This non-seafood lover will slowly convert thanks to BarFly!

My husband and I ate at Bar fly Saltwater Grill today and where very pleased with the restaurant. Very relaxing atmosphere and the food was great. My husband had the Lobster roll and he said it very delicious and tender his sides where cold slaw and clips and the soup was lobster bisque. I had the blackening grouper with pineapple salsas, yellow rice, corn and a salad. The grouper was the best I have every had, no fishy taste, flakey and could taste the freshness. The pineapple salsa had a wonderful taste with the grouper never had it before. We will definitely be back to eat again and try some more of their wonderful food.

Went to the Bar Fly on Labor Day around 6PM. Unfortunately the lowest I could give this place is one star...not because the food was bad...in fact we were there a total of 2 minutes before we walked out. The table was dirty so I walked over to the cashier and asked if they had a bar rag to clean the table. She never looked up from the computer and said she didn't know if they had any! Never looked at me and I was totally stunned by her attitude. As a 50+ year old I never expected this type of treatment at a place that I wanted to spend my money at....I told my wife what had happened and I said we weren't going to patronize this place. My wife said to the cashier, as we were on our way out, that she couldn't believe they didn't have anything to clean off the table and the cashier said she just got into work and they really didn't have any rags to clean off the table....sounds like she was upset that she had to work that night. So to the owner of this restraunt I say....sorry but your employees aren't doing your place justice. To this day I'll never know if your food is good....however the story ends on a good note...I went to the Whistle Stop down the street and asked them if they had any bar rags to clean off the tables and they said they had plenty of them :)

The place is really cool. Has a tropical island feel complete with the reagae music. The staff is very friendly and we sat down and we're taken care of within a minute. The menu is extensive, especially if you like fresh seafood. (Posted photos). The dishes are very complex and something you would expect from an upscale restaurant which was a great surprise yet presentation does not match. It looks like what you would expect it to look like from a place like this. Not really a bad thing if you think about it. We ordered the lobster roll and crab legs (took photos). The lobster roll was amazing. Fresh lobster. Finally! Not that frozen crappie and filled to the brim served with side of melted butter and pineapple Cole slaw which was great as well. The biggest surprise were the crab legs. They cracked easily, not that mushy mess you get at a lot of places. Hard to not have the crab meat come out in whole pieces no matter how large or small of a piece you got. (Took photos). What a great surprise! Will definitely return!!!!

Sigh I wasn't impressed. I had a craving for seafood and drove all the way to Safety Harbor to get it. The restaurant is tiny and it seems like they have live music on Fridays. They did when I went but I'm not sure if it was a special night or not. Even though it was busy I managed to get a seat fairly quickly. I looked over the menu and remembered that the Grouper sandwich was supposed to be good so I ordered that and lobster bisque. The lobster bisque was tasty. Had a little spice, not tons of meat, but it was very rich. Shortly after my grouper sandwich and rice and beans came out. The rice and beans I passed on after the first bite, wasn't great in my opinion. I took a bite of the grouper sandwich and was underwhelmed. It wasn't tender and lacked flavor. I took the bread off and just managed to finish the grouper. I was still hungry and couldn't afford to try something else and risk not liking it. Overall the food in my opinion was very mediocre Maybe I need to try something else on the menu, I don't know, but I was slightly disappointed with my meal. Service was excellent though!

This place may be smaller than many restaurants, but their food quality is huge! If you love really fresh and well-prepared seafood, you'll be hooked on this place. It's a clean, bright and casual place with cool decor that doesn't include an overload of nets, floats and standard fake beachy stuff. Just brightly painted and decorated in a fun way. Everyone is immediately warmly greeted when they enter, and you feel right at home. Donelle, our Server, was great. When he explained the specials and answered our questions, he gave off this combination vibe that says 'I know everything that goes into every dish' coupled with a 'you'll see!!' wink. He was dead on!! We started out with a huge plate of Nachos that included fresh shimp on one half, and mahi mahi on the other half. It was topped with a tangy slaw with a chunky pineapple salsa. It was fresh, flavorful and delicious! My wife loved her cup of Lobster Bisque and my Clam Chowder was good. I really loved every kernel of my Siracha Shrimp Rice Bowl (a huge portion of large shrimp mixed with a spicy corn salsa served over black beans and yellow rice). But the longer home run of the day was my wife's Lobster Roll. It was large, stacked with big chunks of beautiful lobster, had minimal mayo (so it didn't detract one molecule from the lobster), and was served on a much better quality bun than the lame ones served elsewhere. It was a killer sandwich all the way. The service was great, and Donelle never rushed us or delayed waiting for refills or the chow. Excellent job! We'll be regulars here soon, but, we now have a challenge to overcome: now that we know everything on the menu is fantastic, it'll be tough picking what to try next!

Great lunch and great service from Kathy. Had the kids with us and no problem. All the fish was fresh and delicious. We had the clams, oysters, fish tacos, and grouper sandwich.

This place is an awesome little joint that reminds me that I can be vacation no matter where I go, & what I do as long as I'm laughing! Yes, that's the truth. Donnell, our server was awesome. He took care of Melony & I, & was helpful, genuine, & funny. We sat outside, & he always checked up on us. He helped us with our mind boggling food questions. He even jokingly made a fuss about it because I'm always asking tons of questions, and Melony did this time. It was funny! We ordered fish dip, side salads, lobster rolls. I also ordered a white sangria. All were yummy & refreshing. Lobster rolls always call our name, so here we were. They served it on sliced toasted french bread with very little mayo, and a side of butter. Good chunky pieces of lobster I must add. The fish spread was not all mayo like it was at a previous place so we liked it a lot served with celery and or crackers. Make sure you get the white sangria, you will be fully refreshed. This restaurant has tables outside for when you bring your dog everywhere like I do. This place is great, and coming up next we will try their seafood nachos. They also have chicken, meat, & veggie options!

A little history...... It is called bar fly because the male owner is a fly fisher. His passions are in fishing and beer.. lots of beer and great quality fish. Look around this place and his passion is evident. His wife's thing is cooking. The two fuzed together and made this place....a place that a guy like me who loves his beer, fish tacos, and hot sauce would be passionate about revisiting. I had the cilantro Lime tacos (see photo) and the lobster bites as a starter. The grouper was fresh and the cilantro Lime sauce they use is a must have. Get both because just getting one won't fill you up. We had excellent, personal service on a slow day. Our waiters name was Donnell and he used to be one of the chefs in the kitchen so was very knowledgeable about the whole restaraunt concept. Ask for him, he won't let you down. His personality matches the restaraunt (a compliment). If you are ever in safety harbor, stop here for lunch, dinner, or just for any sort of drink. I highly recommend it.

Walking in here, I felt like I was on a cruise or at a bar in the keys. Tropical atmosphere and music make you feel like there should be a beach outside the windows, instead of safety harbor. Lobster bisque was very good, lots of lobster. Conch chowder was good as well. I had the Sriracha tacos and my bf had the Mahi bowl. Both were cooked well and had a lot of flavor. Will be back again, lots of other good looking food. Service was also very good and they have a lot of Sweetwater brews, you can get a 4 sampler for like 8$. Prices are reasonable, it was around 50$ for both of us.

My wife and I have been looking for a good, local seafood restaurant, and we finally found one! This little place is decorated nicely, has two sides, bar side and restaurant side, but you can eat on either. She had the sriracha shrimp bowl, I had the blackened fresh fish catch of the day which was grouper. The shrimp bowl was wonderfully spicy and delicious, the grouper dinner was good, but I was a little disappointed that yet another restaurant in this area say it's blackened, when it isn't..at all..but the flavor was good and the fish was fresh. Great selection of craft beers. We will definitely go back, and I will try something that isn't supposed to be blackened.

Time for a long-overdue update. My initial review was for the bar alone, before the restaurant existed. Someone merged the two entities on Yelp, so I've got to chime in on the Saltwater Grill's food. If the catch of the day is Grouper, then head down there and order it because it might be the best grouper you've ever eaten in your life. We've all had Frenchy's, Rusty Bellies, Aqua Prime, Catch 23, etc., but heed my word grouper groupies! Hands down, the best, freshest, thickest, most tenderest grouper filet I've ever eaten in my life. The rice and beans on the side are average at best, and play a serious back seat to the sammich, but they play a vital role in refreshing your palate for the next delicious bite of grouper. Ask for Alan--the dude is hilarious, especially if you order a Bud Light.

Well it started good. Apps were great. Shrimp nachos and lobster bites. Beer selection was great. Clams we ordered were brought out mostly unopened and they had to get new ones. Service was slow, served disjointed so people were done before others got their food. I was excited but them kinda disappointed at the experience. Our grouper was a bit dry and overcooked. Nothing to write home about. They made hood on it so i will be back. Love the atmosphere

I sat outside after the afternoon downpour to enjoy a lovely lunch of mahi-mahi tacos and sirracha shrimp and corn bowl. The mahi-mahi was perfectly grilled it was moist and flavorful nicely complemented by the purple cabbage and pineapple.salsa. The Sirracha shrimp and corn bowl was a nice combination of yellow rice and beans with just the right mix of cheese and corn salsa. I enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients including the fish. The service was attentive and prompt. My ice tea was refilled without asking. A very enjoyable lunch.

My husband and I sat at the bar, friendly service with great food and beer suggestions. Tried the oysters, fish tacos and local beers all were great. Have to say I eat fish tacos everywhere and these are the best yet!

Sat outside on a weekend afternoon so everything should be fresh but was not. For me this is a place for beers only. Wait staff super nice and personable. However, our waiter was VERY forgetful and needs a different profession. Crabcake standard food service frozen variety. Lobster roll had plenty of lobster but days old. Good fish spread. Manager stopped by but we didint say anything we just won't eat there again.

Sorry, wanted to like it, but the food was below par. Very basic, crudely done. Not so much the work of a chef as someone just putting things together. Very disappointing. Its a nice bar though, friendly locals and staff, so go there for a drink though! In that you wont be disappointed!

Would you drive forty-five minutes for a fish taco? As a transplanted New Yorker and ten-year Tampa Floridian, I wasn't sure and quite honestly, neither were my friends on a recent week-long visit here from their home in Connecticut. A lazy day of lounging on the beach and pool had lured my guests into complacency and the convenience of take out pizza was threatening to take hold. But hearing the Fish Tacos at Bar Fly were worth the trip, I was able to convince them and our sun-weary party of six headed for the quaint Tampa suburb of Safety Harbor. I'm pleased to report that Bar Fly Saltwater Grill did not disappoint. The parking was easy and tho the place is smallish (two rooms with perhaps fifteen or so tables tops), we were able to get seating for six right away at 5:15 on a Wednesday. The craft beer sampling at the bar was a great touch, impressing our guests from the northeast that they weren't with a bunch of retirees in 'God's waiting room'... The funky Caribbean atmosphere and friendly service were pitch-perfect, energizing everyone back to life. The fresh oysters were just that - fresh and perfectly chilled. The grouper tacos were amazing with both cilantro-lime and sriracha sauces deftly portioned for maximum flavor and minimum mess. Sides were fresh and seasoned correctly. We shared desserts of key lime pie and ice cream sundaes before paying an affordable bill (a great value). Satiated but not stuffed we enjoyed a brief stroll around the town and down to the harbor with its view of Tampa's skyline before making what felt like a much shorter drive home!

Best fish tacos I've found. Go on taco Tuesday and you can get an assortment of delicious tacos for a great price. I usually get 1 fish, shrimp and buffalo chicken and it comes out to $8. Super friendly staff and the food comes out of the kitchen faster than anywhere else I've been. Seriously. I once ordered 3 tacos, went and washed my hands, came back and 10 seconds later they were there. The food is consistent too. I've never once been disappointed with an order yet. I have a few suggestions that would improve an already great place though: 1) nix the fishing videos on the TV's and stick with current sports. It is rare to walk in and see whatever the big game is on. 2) add some of the staple beers and if possible add a liquor license. On the beer side they have lots of local brands, but they don't have many of the industry favorites like Guinness, Sam Adams, etc. I'd love them to drop a few of the unpopular local brews and add some staples.

My bf and I are always on the look out for new spots to try and we were happy to see the Saltwater Grill located on Main Street in Safety Harbor. Part bar part restaurant, the layout is a tight squeeze for the amount of tables they have inside but we were comfortable at the hightop we selected. We both ordered the blackened fish tacos and they were awesome. The fish had a great flavor and the salsa on top was fresh and complimented the fish quite well. The tacos were served with beans and rice as well as some tortilla chips. We washed these down with a couple of beers and can't wait to go back and try other menu items at this little spot.

It's cute, it's tiny, and the staff is great. It's got it's own look to it, half bar, half bait shop, but since I don't know about fishing, AND I adore cheap beer, I could probably survive without ever having to visit this hipster joint again. I'm just not tattoed enough.

great fish tacos. Taco Tuesday is the day to go for cheaper tacos. Very hard to get in on third Friday because they don't have very much room. Very clean restaurant and friendly wait staff.

Talk about a breath of fresh air! When you walk into Bar Fly, that's exactly what you feel. Island colors and themes of Key West decorated pleasantly with fish and marine art contributed by local artists. And, if you're into fly-fishing, then Bar Fly is a must on your to do list. Bar Fly is not your typical watering hole. It brings an element of creativity to the patrons. At Bar Fly, you can sit down with a cold one and learn how to tie a fly. Or, if you're a seasoned fly-tyer, you can sit down and show off some of your favorite patterns to your fishing buds. Tasty craft beers on draft and in bottles, homemade sangria and yes, they serve Bud Light too. Did I forget to mention the fish spread? Made locally, this is a favorite of mine. Make sure you try it! You'll be glad you did. Chips, salsa and goldfish crackers to munch on too! And, plenty of unique art and apparel on sale so that you can take something home that for sure will be admired by most. If you're in Safety Harbor and you haven't checked out Bar Fly yet, put it high on your priority list to do asap. And, if you're from across the way and looking for something to do that's for sure worth the drive, come on down!

Looking for a good seafood restaurant? This place is not what you're looking for. For a place that is supposedly known for making great tacos, it was very disappointing. Basically everything we ordered was bland and poor quality. Don't order the nachos, tacos, and lobster roll. Service was slow as well. The only good thing I can say about this place are the oysters. The oysters has a mild sweetness to it and they were plump.

A very nice surprise in Safety Harbor. We were tired of our usual haunts in Pinellas County and went to this area for the first time. We started with a dozen (actually 14 ) oysters that were fresh and briny. Then we had the best nachos ever, blue corn chips, pineapple and bits of fish, shrimp etc. a delightful dish. The clam chowder was a good as any in nNew England and the key lime pie was delicious.

The lobster bisque is scrumptious! Smooth and rich with a buttery finish, my taste buds were doing a happy dance. The one thing I would suggest is that they offer a crusty roll instead of the usual oyster crackers. This is a dip and eat bisque! The appetizer trio plate I split with my husband rates a double XQ (Excellent Quality and Quantity)-- peel and eat shrimp, shrimp cerviche, shrimp quesadillas, salty blue tortilla chips, and a good array of condiments, which were homemade. This place is next to/part of the Bar fly--local brews and raw bar.

Not bad, but not great. The beer is great they have a good selection of bottled stuff and usually at least a couple quality craft brews on tap. If you want to drink beer while surrounded by fishing decor this is your place. The food is average Florida seafood. Grouper sandwiches, fish tacos, peel and eat shrimp, mahi sandwich, ext. Nothing too innovative. I'm not sure if this place is a franchise or a chain but it has that feel to it. So if you are in Safety Harbor and want to go to a bar that has Florida seafood this is your place.

Tonight we tried the Saltwater Grill in Safety Harbor. It just opened a few months back and is connected to Bar Fy which is a bar that has been open about a year. We were at the Cupcake place next door (Pick your Poison) and thought we would give it a try. The atmosphere was cool with reggae music in back round and tiki hut type stuff, but didn't really fit in this strip of businesses. Strange layout. The food was very good. We both ordered the blackened fish tacos. They were unique and very tasty. They served them with beans/rice and tortia chips. We accompanied that with a Hoegarden beer. The waitress was nice and overall was a good meal. We definitely want to go back and try some additional items on the menu.

Enjoyed Bar Fly two nights in a row during a stop through Safety Harbor. Food is outstanding. Seafood nachos, grouper/mahi sandwiches, and crab cakes were all excellent. Double down on the sangria and any combos on the beer selection. Head chef is personable welcoming and is proud of his creations - as he should be! Will be back anytime we are in town.

We were at SHR&S this past weekend and we ate lunch there Fri 9th and Sat 10th. Yes as other reviews state its a small place but they fit our party of 10 in just great. We had to wait Sat for table to leave but it was worth the wait. Fresh food friendly waitress and cook. GREAT fish spread and great wedge salad. I had lobster bits I had not had lobster in over 15 yrs thought I didnt like it but this was delish!

I didn't really get this place. It's a gimmick, having a fly fishing shop and bar in one. My question is Why? Is anyone who stops in for a beer going to want some fly fishing tips? And the beer selection wasn't that huge, compared to some other local watering holes. However, the saving grace is the staff. They were extremely welcoming and friendly. We originally bellied up to the bar, but it was a bit cramped so we went to sit outside and the bartender came out to check on us a bit later to see if we wanted another beer. There was also good live music on Saturday night. I guess I'm not the target demographic, but I would suggest picking either bar or fishing shop and focus on that. The bar could earn another star or two in my mind if it did.

Best grouper sandwich in town! Tried the Super Grouper when it was on special and it was down right delicious. Went back a couple weeks after when my parents were in town and got them hooked too! A bit pricey, but worth every cent. It wont disappoint.

I stopped into the bar fly for dinner and loved the place, the vibe is really cool and laid back. The decor is amazing it's really fun to look around all the fishing themed ornaments. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp with a caesar salad on the side and the food was delicious I've never tasted better. The service was excellent as well very friendly and unobtrusive. They had music playing in the bar area while I ate it was really nice as well I couldn't see the performer but could hear it very well. Be it known that the Bar Fly is a bar AND a restaurant not just a bar with food.

Everything was excellent. Exceeded only by the generosity of the owner. The grouper sandwich was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned was accompanied by black beans and coleslaw instead of the usual French fries. Even the wedge salad was beyond expectations. Definitely recommend this place.

Went there on a Saturday afternoon during a festival or something. I was craving a lobster roll. Read good reviews on google....so I gave them a try. $14 later.... I was given a tiny hot dog bun....with a few pieces of lobster sauteed in butter till greasy. Simply a waste of money AND craving.

Wanted some fresh seafood and heard the crab cakes are pretty good here, so we decided to try this new place in Safety Harbor on a Monday evening Tried the oysters, tiny itty bitty very disappointed in the size. The server had no idea where they were from. Finally she came back and said they were Gulf oysters?? Ok, how about crab cakes "we are out" ok, Lobster roll, "we are out" lobster bites?? "we are out", Ordered the lobster bisque; bland.... blue cheese wedge, loaded with what seemed a pound of bacon, sour cream dressing with blue cheese chunks, The heart or core of the salad was left in the wedge. I have to say it was a good size portion, but nothing special. My husband ordered the Mahi blackening sandwich. The flavor was good, however, the fish was overcooked, the Mahi seemed a bit dry. The two sides were very tasty. Their version of black beans and rice was good. Coleslaw very tasty. We each ordered Sangria, one red, one white, good flavor, however, I do not like cinnamon in white sangria. We will go back again and try this new place, hopefully they wil have crab and lobster on our next visit. They were also out of several draft beers. Thinking that they get deliveries on Tuesdays!
